White Eagle Credit Union Welcomes New President and CEO

White Eagle Credit Union Welcomes New President and CEO

Augusta, KS – The Board of Directors has chosen Eric Brown as President and Chief Executive Officer of White Eagle Credit Union (WECU), starting Monday, May 23, 2022. The Board followed the succession plan to ensure an orderly process for executive leadership transition. WECU’s Board of Directors are elected by membership and give their time and experience to ensure the organization meets the needs of its members and the community.

“Eric excelled among a very strong pool of candidates and has demonstrated a solid vision for the future of WECU,” said Ron Reavis, Board Chair. Ron continued, “Over the past five months, the Search Committee and Board worked to find someone that would meet the current and future needs of White Eagle Credit Union. I am proud to say that White Eagle Credit Union’s reputation of changing lives and lifting communities through financial wellness and involvement inspired so many wonderfully gifted people to apply to lead our organization.”

Eric is an accomplished senior executive who brings more than 23 years of experience, growth, and leadership in the financial services industry. Eric has served as Senior Vice President – Branch Delivery with Emprise Bank and Vice President – Sales and Service with Meritrust Credit Union.

Today looks quite a bit different than it did 23 years ago. Eric explains, “Then, it was locations, locations, locations. Convenience of those locations was vital, being able to meet your member where they were shopping, living, or driving by. We did not have smartphones back then or the branch right in our pockets. Branches are important and will always have a key role in our Credit Union. However, meeting the member where they are now includes the branch that sits on their phone. So, continuing to evolve that channel and its capabilities while remaining safe and secure will be important for continued growth.”

Leadership

Eric’s passion and leadership style are centered on people helping people and neighbors helping neighbors. When asked why he chose WECU, Eric stated “When people can grow personally and professionally at the same time, they can achieve exponential growth. WECU’s employees have terrific tenure. What excites me about this, is our ability to grow together. When our employees are growing, our membership benefits from that and will grow as well.”

Community Service

Community service is a key part of what makes White Eagle CU. “When it comes to community service it goes beyond sponsorships and donations. These are just a couple of ways we can help support our communities. But beyond that, connecting with your community and having your community connect with WECU is about volunteering. It is about getting our hands dirty right next to the other people doing the work” Eric explains.

Goals

Eric’s main goal is with every person he meets or encounters that their day should be better. Whether it is a simple smile, a light-hearted laugh together, a cup of coffee or a financial product that can make your financial life better.

Eric lives in Augusta, KS with his wife Tricia. They have three sons – Easton, Ericson, and Emmett where they live by their passion as a family of people helping people. “When we bow our heads to pray at dinner, the one phrase we always pray is “help us be blessings to others”. For those of you that we have been fortunate enough to know, I hope you have felt that in one way or another. For those of you we have yet to meet, we very much look forward to it.”

Eric currently serves on the AHS CTE Advisory Committee and University of Kansas Advisory Council and has been involved in Augusta Youth Basketball, Football, Chamber of Commerce and Downtown Augusta Inc (currently known as GoAugusta!). Eric studied and graduated from Butler Community College, Emporia State University, Stonier Graduation School of Banking and received a Certificate of Leadership from the Wharton School at Penn.

Incoming WECU President and CEO Eric Brown officially assumes his duties on May 23, 2022. White Eagle Credit Union is a not-for-profit cooperative financial institution serving those in Butler County and the surrounding counties/communities.  White Eagle has three convenient branch locations in Augusta, El Dorado and Newton.  Currently, White Eagle Credit Union serves more than 14,000 members with assets exceeding 140 million. For 87 years White Eagle Credit Union has been serving its members and communities. Nothing has changed. They are Here to serve YOU today.

White Eagle CU will be hosting Open Houses at each branch during the months of June and July. Please follow us on social media and visit us online at WhiteEagleCU.com for dates and times.

WECU Cardholder Fraud Education

WECU Cardholder Fraud Education.

It is a new year and a busy time of year for everyone including the fraudsters.

Unfortunately, fraudsters have been getting cardholders to share the information they need to commit fraud.  One way is by posing as  financial institution call center agents. They are also known to send text messages that look like they are coming from your financial institution. These text messages may contain a warning of suspicious transaction activities.

Here are some following points to help you avoid compromising your personal information:

Text and Phone Alerts
  • A text alert from Fiserv  warning of suspicious activity on a cardholder’s card will NEVER include a link to be clicked. Cardholders should never click on a link in a text message that is supposedly from Fiserv. A valid notification from Fiserv will provide information about the suspect transaction and ask the cardholder to reply to the text message with answers such as ‘yes’, ‘no’, ‘help’, or ‘stop,’ and will never include a link.
  • A text alert from Fiserv will always be from a 5-digit number and NOT a 10-digit number resembling a phone number.
What should I do if I receive a phone call from Fiserv
  1. No information should have to be provided by the cardholder other than their zip code
  2. Only answer “yes” or “no” to their questions.
  3. Fiserv will NEVER ask for the PIN or the 3-digit security code on the back of a card.  Only a fraudster will tell you that they are going to issue you a new card and need your PIN number
  4. If a transaction is confirmed fraudulent, then Fiserv will ask for more information.  The cardholder will then be transferred to an agent who will ask questions to confirm the card member’s identity before going through their transactions.
  5. Feel uneasy about the call or questions, please hang up and call WECU.

Final note:  Please check your account(s) regularly for online for suspicious transactions.  Especially if you are unsure about a call or text message you have received. If anything looks amiss,  please call WECU directly for assistance.

Be diligent in protecting yourself, your financial and personal information.

  • Never give out your personal financial information.  White Eagle CU will NEVER ask for your personal information via text, email or unsolicited phone call.   Please never give out your PIN, SSN, DOB or your account number to anyone calling you and asking for it.
  • Do Not give out your online banking information.  Please do not give out your account/password/pin.
  • Ignore online offers for vaccinations and home test kits.  Scammers are trying to get you to buy products that aren’t proven to treat or prevent the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) — online or in stores.
  • Hang up on robocalls.  Don’t press any numbers. Scammers are using illegal robocalls to pitch everything from scam Coronavirus treatments to work-at-home schemes.
  • Checks:  Don’t respond to texts and emails about checks from the government.  Anyone who tells you they can get you the money now is a scammer.
  • Don’t click on links from sources you don’t know. They could download viruses onto your computer or device.
  • Watch for emails claiming to be from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) or experts saying they have information about the virus. For the most up-to-date information about the Coronavirus, visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO).
  • Fact-check information. Scammers, and sometimes well-meaning people, share information that hasn’t been verified.
  • Charitable Donations:  Please do your homework.  If someone wants donations in cash, by gift card, or by wiring money, don’t do it.

Thanksgiving and Gratitude

“As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.” – John F Kennedy

Thanksgiving and Gratitude for our members and the communities we serve.

This is the time of year that we take time to acknowledge the things that we are thankful for.  Things like family, friends, health, and also the things we take for granted.  With the current pandemic that we are going through we pray for those that feel isolated and lonely.  We encourage you to reach out to someone you know that is in this position.

Also, we want to thank our members and our communities for allowing us to serve you.  We wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving.  Stay safe and stay healthy.

Best regards, Rick Blue – President
